My first Christmas at BM

2012-12-23 20.30.03

Princess Chloe the First and The Diva warned me about Yours Truly Confused’s obsession with getting the perfect, cute doggy Xmas photos.

So when she placed green antlers adorned with marabou feathers (sheesh!) on my majestic and dignified head, I hid my face before she had time to whip the camera out.

Do not disturb

Extremely busy today, snoozing, stretch and snuggling.

If you want me to do something, talk to the paw.

Ouch

Mum got me up really early this morning and we went off in a taxi to Anicare Vets. To my horror, she left me there!  I was sure I had been abandoned again, and felt really depressed.

The nurse in Anicare Vets was really very nice, but she could not cheer me up.  For some reason, she shaved some of the hair off one of my front legs and stuck something in it.  I forget what happened then, everything went woozy.
When I woke up it was late afternoon and I felt really wobbly and my face was really sore. I couldn’t stop drooling, and my legs just would not co-operate.  Thankfully, when the nurse helped me out of the recovery room, who was there waiting for me but my mom – she hadn’t abandoned me after all (whew!).  I struggled across the floor and flopped on top of her, trying very hard not to cry.  Mum just kept hugging and petting me and telling me it was all going to be OK.

I heard the vet telling Mum that he had successfully removed the bad abscess that was causing me to be cross whenever anybody touched my face. He also showed her some pictures he had taken of my back end (the indignity of my bum being x-rayed while I was unconscious!).  He said that I have developed arthritis on my spine and my back legs, which explains my John Wayne walk (that’s what mum calls it, I prefer to refer to my gait as “stately”).  To manage this arthritis stuff, I need to take Metacalm every day, and have light exercise.  And stick to that diet.

After the chat with the vet, mum brought me home. I was so unsteady that I couldn’t get on the couch, and kept sliding round on the floor. Mum had to lie under me and sort of roll me over to get me on to a nice comfortable blanket.  Izzy is staying close to me to make sure I’m safe.  I am so relieved to be home.

I promise to look after my teeth carefully in future!

I love the park

2012-12-09 15.41.08

Because of my weight, I fjnd it very hard to get around, and usually will only tolerate a very short walk.

However, Yours Truly Confused has found a nice place called Rockfield Park not far from Baskerville Manor.  There is lots of wide open space and flat ground so I find it easy to rev up into a nice canter.  Of course, I won’t do it unless mum encourages me by singing the theme from Bonanza to me. I think she started that because she couldn’t 2012-12-09 14.28.36remember the music from The Men Called Shiloh.

There are lots of other dogs there, walking their people, and I get to play with them, which is great fun. I met another lab like me today and we hit it off really well.

There are also plenty of things to sniff and investigate, so Princess Chloe the First, The Diva and I have formed a detective group to look into everything.

Sore

2012-12-11 18.08.56

Normally I am a really happy chap, but over the last few days my face has been feeling sore and I get very cross if anybody touches me there.

Mum brought me to Anicare Vets and they told her that I had thing called an abscess on one of my back molars.

Apparently these means I may have to get a root canal (what am I supposed to do with a canal – swim in it?  It’s December for heaven’s sake). If not a root canal, an extraction – what’s that I wonder?

Anyway an appointment has been made for next Tuesday and all will be revealed then.
